Cootie Lesson Plan
Objectives:
The students will be able to identify the animal parts.
The students will be able to identify the names of the animal parts.
The students will be able to work cooperatively in a group.
The students will be able to follow directions.
Procedures:
On the board display the parts labeled of the cootie parts. Spell out the words if you draw them. Show the cootie book to the children page by page. Stress the last page. The sentences need to make sense. For example if the student rolls the die and gets the word tongue on it. The child needs to make the sentence complete. (Then I got a tongue. Not just write the word tongue on the line.) You can write them on the board if necessary. Remind them to roll the die nicely, so that it stays on their desks.
Rules: You need to get the body first. Then you get the head. You may not get the pieces and keep them until you get the head and the body. It doesn’t matter which part the students get after the body and the head.
Put the children into pairs. Teacher will play if there are an odd number of students.
Hand out the books to the students. Make sure that they put their names on the cover. Go though the book with them page by page. Now hand out the dice to the pairs. They may begin now. Continue playing until they are all done getting their pieces. You do NOT have to wait for them to color in their cooties. This can be done when they have free time.
Time Frame: This activity should take about 30 minutes total. 5 minutes for instructions. 20 minutes to complete book. 5 minutes to wrap up activity.
Evaluation:
The student will have been able to read the die.
The student will have completed the book.
The student will have made complete sentences in the book.
