In April I went to an
Early Childhood Convention in Whitewater,
Wisconsin.
I had the chance to attend several different hour long
workshops there. One that I attended turned out to be
a superb one! It is called Reading, Rhythm, Rap, and
Rhyme. The presenter was Sylvia Wallach. She is out
of Chicago. After her enthusiastic session, she had
some of her materials for sale. When I approached her
about payment she only took cash or checks. There was
my problem. I only had credit cards. Low and behold,
she said that was not a problem! I could send her a
check! Boy was I excited about that. I couldn't have
gotten any better news. I couldn't get her songs out
of my head. Now my kids can't get them out of their
heads!

Here I am with Sylvia.
Another session that I went to was.... tada...
Stephen Kellogg

What a thrill that was. He talked about the books
that he wrote and some of the ones that he
illustrated. He also showed slides of his animals
that his books were based on. It was a real
treat.
Yet another session that I went to was Color R World.
This past winter, I was looking at some materials that
a presenter had for sale, and saw a name that was very
familiar to me. That name was Victoria Smith.
Nothing else besides the name though. I wasn't in the
class that this lady was teaching so I wasn't sure
quite what to expect. I had two of my friends in
there with me, I hope that they got something out of
it too.
This was tag board with 4 birds that move with a magnet.
Another idea that she shared was:

This is what she called a "Hookboard." This particular one was matching shadow tools to the pictures. The possibilities are endless!

This is a cool idea. You take those large popcorn tins and wrap these sheets around them. More possibilities for this too!
Here is another idea that she shared. For another idea on this, we talked about mounting these rain drops with the vel-cro next to it. Then we suggested that we not have to program the rain drops until after it was laminated.
Here are some other ideas using both the tag board and those popcorn tin. Tammy said that in hindsight, she would have done something a little different. In the picture she should have changed the kites on the tin. On that one, she had the tails attached by magnets. That meant a ton of magnets! On the pail and shovel Tammy has beginning sounds matching with beginning letters. On the left kite board, she had color words.
Still to come: Pictures of a bat! And other mammals.
