Butterfly Garden
The butterfly friendly enviornment tips on how to create your own butterfly garden.
To create an attractive environment for the butterflies, it is important to adhere to the following basic requirements:
Plenty of sunshine
Provide shelter from the wind
Maintain a reliable nectar source
Maintain host plants (food for the caterpillars and egg laying, etc.)
Protection from danger/predators
Water
A combination of annuals, perennials, trees, and woody shrubs will provide the proper environment for all stages of the butterflies life cycle. Butterflies have the ability to sense an section of the garden that produces more nectar than others. Therefore, mass plantings of the same species of plants/flowers are by far the most effective way to entice them to feed in your habitat.
